• Abstract
  In topology, we are concerned with geometric objects under continuous deformations - for instance we can continuously deform a coffee cup to a donut. A topology is an abstraction of the properties of metric spaces which are needed to define continuous functions. The course covers foundations of general topology (topological spaces, continuity, compactness, connectedness, identification topologies), the fundamental group, classification of closed surfaces. • Eligibility
  For admission to the course, knowledge is required equivalent to Mathematics III - Abstract Algebra, 7.5 credits (MM5020) and Mathematics III - Foundations of Analysis, 7.5 credits (MM5021). Also required is knowledge equivalent to Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
